Panas Athanatos is a Greek jazz guitarist and composer based in New York City. Raised in Bournazi, Athens, he began playing guitar at fourteen and studied at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory with guitarist Yiotis Samaras. He became active in the Greek jazz scene, leading his own groups and working with musicians including Spyros Panagiotopoulos, Pantelis Benetatos and Kostas Konstantinou, while also performing and recording as a sideman in Greece and the United Kingdom.

In 2015 Athanatos moved to Groningen, the Netherlands, to study at the Prins Claus Conservatory. There he worked with musicians including Spike Wilner, Paul Bollenback, Jonathan Kreisberg, Mark Gross, Joris Teepe and Adam Nussbaum. The following year he formed the Snow White Quartet and performed throughout the Netherlands.

Athanatos relocated to New York City in 2017 and quickly became part of the city's jazz community. His association with Smalls and Mezzrow stretches back to his first year in New York, developing through after-hours sessions, solo-guitar performances and, eventually, an extensive series of appearances as a bandleader. In recent years, Pana's Trio has become a regular late-night presence at Smalls, with lineups featuring bassists Marty Kenney and Giuseppe Cucchiara and drummers Zach Adleman, Jason Tiemann and Joe Strasser.

His debut album, Rainbowhood, was recorded live at Smalls and released independently on cassette. Bringing together Athanatos's original compositions with jazz standards, solo-guitar performances and music by Curtis Mayfield, the record reflects his connection to the tradition of straight-ahead jazz while maintaining a distinctly personal approach to repertoire and presentation.

Today, Athanatos continues to lead his trio at Smalls while maintaining an active role in New York's jam-session culture, including the recurring Afternoon Jam in the Cafe at Jazzcultural. His path from Athens and Groningen to the clubs of Greenwich Village was profiled by the Greek arts publication deBóp in 2025.
